Police Care UK has launched a new service for police veterans looking to set up their own business after leaving the service.
With more than 11 serious injuries a day, and the psychological trauma of policing taking its toll on more frontline police, the need to better support those leaving the service transition into new employment is more important than ever before.
Research conducted by Police Care UK found that there was little or no support for those who were ill-health retired from policing to prepare for life after the service, and that a priority need was better advice on how to begin a new career outside the job.
In partnership with x-forces, Police Care UK has launched a specialist service for serving and veteran police and families that delivers a one day session with expert facilitators to determine whether starting a business is right for you. If you discover a business idea and want to progress from the Introduction Day then you will be invited to a 2 day workshop to further develop your ideas and start your journey to self-employment.
Police Care UK Chief Executive Gill Scott-Moore said, “the future employment needs of police and families is an important issue that is often overlooked, and yet is one of the most serious problems families face when coming to terms with their situation. Offering people the support they need to embark on this is vital to enabling people to recover and rebuild their lives.”
